Starting in 2024, officials say Singapore’s Changi Airport will introduce automated immigration clearance, which will allow passengers to depart the city-state without passports, using only biometric data. Biometric technology, along with facial recognition software, is already in use to some extent in Changi Airport at automated lanes at immigration checkpoints. Congress spokespersons backed what they called India's "fight against terrorism" and criticised Trudeau. The Sikh religion was founded in Punjab in the late 15th century and currently has about 25 million followers worldwide. Sikh separatists demand that their homeland Khalistan, meaning "the land of the pure", be created out of Punjab. The Khalistan movement is considered a security threat by the Indian government. In April this year, India arrested a self-styled preacher and Sikh separatist Amritpal Singh for allegedly reviving calls for Khalistan, sparking fears of new violence in Punjab. The tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions came after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada was investigating “credible allegations” linking India to the June killing of Canadian citizen and prominent Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India’s foreign ministry on Tuesday responded in kind, saying it had expelled a senior Canadian diplomat based in India. “The concerned diplomat has been asked to leave India within the next five days,” it said in a statement. That operation caused huge anger within the Sikh community and Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in the aftermath.

A series of bold investmentsExperts say much of India’s outbound growth trajectory is being driven by improvements in infrastructure and an expansion in its aviation sector. Morgenshtern says the rise in outbound tourism from India is the result of investment not just by the government but by private airlines as well. Air India, for example, is fully owned by Indian conglomerate Tata Sons. As part of its efforts to expand its offerings, the company announced earlier this year it will be operating flights under both the Air India brand and Air India Express, having previously merged the latter with Tata’s other low-cost airline, AirAsia India. In February, Air India purchased nearly 500 new planes, the most ever bought in one order by a single airline.

NEW DELHI, June 8 (Reuters) - India's foreign minister on Thursday hit out at Canada for allowing a float in a parade depicting the 1984 assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards, perceived to be glorification of violence by Sikh separatists. "I think it is not good for relationships, not good for Canada," he said. Canada's High Commissioner for India also condemned the incident at a parade by Sikh activists in the Canadian city of Brampton. "I am appalled by reports of an event in Canada that celebrated the assassination of late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi," Cameron MacKay said on Twitter. Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984 by two Sikh bodyguards after she allowed the storming of the holiest Sikh temple, aimed at flushing out Sikh separatists who demanded an independent homeland to be known as Khalistan.

A passenger on an American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi flight is accused of urinating on a fellow passenger while inebriated. An American Airlines passenger urinated on another traveler midflight, according to local media reports. "American Airlines flight 292 with service from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport was met by local law enforcement upon arrival in DEL due to a disruption on board," an American Airlines spokesperson told Insider. At the beginning of March, a 21-year-old student reportedly urinated on another passenger who was asleep on an American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi. In January, Wells Fargo fired an employee who was accused of urinating on a fellow passenger while on Air India's New York to Delhi flight in November.

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) Denver International Airport (DEN) Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) Dubai International Airport (DXB) Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Istanbul Airport (IST) Heathrow Airport (LHR) Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson international airport topped the list as the world's busiest airport for the second year in a row. The only year that Atlanta hasn't been the busiest airport in the last four years was 2020 when ATL came in second behind Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in southern China. DFW is the second-largest airport by land area in the United States after Denver International Airport, according to the Department of Transportation. "The gap between China and India is huge," Lalitya Dhavala, valuations consultant at travel analytics firm Cirium told CNBC. India's robust growth trajectoryThe analysts agree there's potential for growth in India's domestic and international travel market. In comparison to China, India has a larger share of young adults, with 40% of its population under 25 years old, Dhavala said. Late last year, Indian conglomerate Tata Group announced that Vistara will merge with national carrier Air India by March 2024.
